Dignity
means giving others respect and take care of their rights. It means having
freedom to make your own decisions. It is
celebrated on third Wednesday in October each year. First it was celebrated on
20th October in 2008. We believe every human
being has a right to lead a dignified life, and that we all have a common
responsibility, and opportunity, to strengthen the dignity of others. Global
Dignity Day is an initiative to educate and inspire young people and help them
to understand their self-worth and goals. Every human being regardless of race,
culture or social background has the right to protect his or her dignity. There
are many organizations helping people get their rights and lead a dignified
life around the world. Many schools are also involved in the activity helping
orphans and less privileged people to understand that everyone is equal and
should be treated equally. You should never sacrifice your or anyone’s dignity
and ultimately your own dignity is interdependent with the dignity of others. ‘‘Ones
dignity may be assaulted, vandalized and cruelly mocked, but it can never be
taken away unless it is surrendered’’. To be able to live each day with honor,
respect and dignity is the greatest achievement of all.
